Every year the cyber threat landscape evolves, and with it we learn the impacts sophisticated threats have on enterprises around the world. New guidance and regulations are continuously released which can help organisations become more cyber resilient, and mitigate ever-evolving threats. To help you navigate this changing landscape, Verizon publishes its annual Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR).

As we release the 18th edition of the DBIR, we invite you to an invitation-only briefing at the US Embassy, Dublin, on Thursday 22nd May. Our host will be Chris Novak, Vice President of Verizon Cybersecurity Consulting and Advisor on the US Government's Cyber Safety Review Board.
 
During this half-day session, Chris will discuss the current trends we have observed from this year’s DBIR research, the key topics that are influencing today’s cyber threats such as the geopolitical landscape, and how public policy is driving cyber resiliency.
 
Open dialogue and questions will be encouraged and this event will take place under Chatham House Rules.

Chris Novak
Verizon

Chris Novak is Vice President of Verizon Cyber Security Consulting. He is an internationally recognized executive in the fields of Incident Response, Computer Forensics, and Threat Intelligence. He has more than 20 years of cybersecurity industry experience ranging from real-world field work to Fortune 100 C-suite and board advisory roles.

Chris was appointed to President Biden’s inaugural Cyber Safety Review Board, where he is advising on matters of cybersecurity and national security. Security Magazine also named Chris a 2022 Top Cybersecurity Leader.
 
Chris has assisted corporations, government agencies, and attorneys with all matters involving digital forensics, fraud investigations, and crisis management. He has testified as an expert witness in various matters and before such bodies as the Supreme Court of the State of New York. He has also briefed United States congressional committees such as Senate Banking, House Financial Services, Senate Commerce, House Energy & Commerce, Senate Judiciary, and House Homeland Security among others.
 
In his current position, he manages teams of highly skilled consultants positioned around the world to support private and public sector organizations in proactively mitigating cyber risk as well as responding to and eradicating active cyber-attacks. Chris’ team and their work has consistently been rated by industry analysts as a leader - or the leader – in every major market worldwide.
 
Chris is an active public speaker, discussing various topics ranging from high-level best practices to executive-level crisis management. He has been a contributing author of the Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report since its first publication in 2008. You will frequently see him featured in TV, radio, and print media, such as CNBC, The Wall Street Journal, ABC News, CBS News, American Banker, SkyNews, and many others. He is also a member of the Forbes Technology Council, where he frequently writes and comments on the topic of cybersecurity. Chris is an active member among multiple industry trade groups and a frequent guest lecturer at universities. He also serves on the advisory boards for various organizations and trade associations in an effort to further promote cybersecurity awareness and education, as well as working closely with organizations as it relates to various policy initiatives on the topic of cybersecurity and mentoring the next generation of cyber defenders. 

Chris holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a CISO Certificate from Carnegie Mellon University. He also maintains active CISSP, CISA, PCI QSA & PFI, and other certifications.
 
Chris is a frequent guest speaker on “The CyberWire” podcast and on various BrightTalk channels as well as other platforms.
 

Michael (Jock) Mullen
Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau

Detective Superintendent Michael (Jock) Mullen has been with the Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau since 2023 following his successful tenure with the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation where he managed the Extradition and Stolen Motor Vehicle Units. Jock served twenty years with the Dorset Police and twelve months working at the London Olympics in 2021. He brings significant experience to his role as operational commander of the Cyber Investigations and Intelligence Units within GNCCB and has oversight of the four GNCCB Regional Hubs.

Richard Pena-Ariet
USSS

Richard Pena-Ariet has just recently transferred to the US Secret Service London Office from Washington, DC. During his time in Washington, DC, he was assigned to the Presidential Protective Division and the Criminal Investigative Division (CID). While working in CID, Richard was assigned to the Cyber Desk of the Global Investigative Operations Center (GIOC) working and supporting the most significant cyber cases in the US Secret Service. Those cases involved cyber criminals/groups from around the world targeting US financial infrastructure to conduct massive fraud schemes. Richard began his career with the Secret Service in the New York Field Office (NYC). In NYC, he was a member of the Electronic Crimes Task Force (USSS) and Cyber Financial Task Force (FBI) working as a case agent combating cyber financial crimes in the NYC district.
